Hard Boards vs. Inflatable Boards: What I Learned After Actually Using Both
This article compares the author’s firsthand experience with inflatable and hard stand-up paddleboards. Initially, the author chose an inflatable board for practical reasons—easy storage and transport—and enjoyed it as a beginner. However, over time, they noticed limitations in efficiency, control, and performance, especially in challenging conditions. After trying a hard board, they appreciated its superior glide, responsiveness, and precision, which enhanced the paddling experience. While hard boards offer better performance for regular paddlers, inflatable boards remain ideal for convenience, portability, and casual use. The author concludes that beginners may prefer inflatable boards, but those seeking to improve or paddle more frequently should consider hard boards earlier than they might think.
